sugbu: hometown of the cebuanos

Sugbu was a collection of fishing villages in pre-Hispanic Philippines.[1][2] The name Sugbu refers to the communities located in present-day Cebu island.[2] Not long before the coming of the Spaniards led by Ferdinand Magellan, Sugbu has strong ties to Southeast Asian countries for trade and commerce.[1]
Sugbu was a pre-hispanic name of Cebu. In 1571, after successful conquering of Sugbu, it was renamed as Villa del Santisimo Nombre de Jesus (Town of the Most Holy Name of Jesus).
